Conférence - Concert : « NOTRE DAME, hier, aujourd’hui et demain »

Le 7 septembre 2024 • Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux

Description

Mr Salvèque, former curator of Cluny Abbey, will tell us the story of Notre Dame de Paris from its construction to the present day.
A wonderful history of France!
Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, built at the end of the 12th century, was the largest construction site in the Ile-de-France region after the cathedrals of Noyon and Sens. With vaulted ceilings of over 33 m, this project heralded the construction of 13th-century cathedrals such as Chartres, Reims and Beauvais, which shattered all records at 48 m, as well as many others.

After the coronation of Napoleon 1st on 2 December 1804, Paris Cathedral became the edifice of the nation, where great men were celebrated at their funerals.
The fire on 15 April 2019 was a traumatic experience. It took two years to bring the damaged building to safety. Since then, a vast restoration campaign has been under way, involving more than 1,000 workers in all specialities, to enable it to be reopened to worship and the public in December 2024.
