Exposition "La coiffure au fil des siècles"

Du 3 juil au 25 octobre 2026 • Paray-le-Monial

Description

This summer, until 25 October 2026, the upper gallery of the cloister at the Basilica of Paray-le-Monial will be hosting the major exhibition "Hairstyles through the centuries", a spectacular journey through human appearance, from Ancient Egypt to the post-war period.

The fruit of the skills of passionate craftsmen, including one Meilleur Ouvrier de France, this exceptional collection comes to life thanks to a meticulous scenography featuring more than 80 busts on rotating pedestals and life-size representations of kings.

A true mirror of society, the art of hair reveals its secrets and its most amusing anecdotes, such as the whimsical "giraffe" hairstyle worn under Charles X.

To help you decipher these hidden messages, there are fascinating guided tours every Tuesday and Friday at 4pm and 5.30pm.

Far from austere museums, this unique visual tour is fun, nostalgic and deeply inter-generational. It's sure to sparkle in the eyes of young and old alike, and bring back fond memories for the elderly.

Don't miss this surprising cultural escapade, full of smiles and sharing. It's a not-to-be-missed event for families and groups, and a great way to share a moment of wonder and complicity!
